somethinksounds and The T-Shirt Issue present Elephant Island sweater A tribute to the champions of the 1914-1917 Trans-Antarctica expedition in both song and sweater – MEN WANTED for hazardous journey. small wages, bitter cold long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful, honor and recognition in event of success. Ernest Shackleton, 4 Burlington st. – Following the island’s silhouette, the Elephant Island sweater’s seams come together and form the traveling route of the Endurance. In an attempt to make the first sea-to-sea crossing of the Polar continent, the notorious nautical expedition stranded a 28-man crew on the frozen Elephant Island. It was either sail or die – forcing expedition leader Shackleton to take 5 of his best men on an open boat journey for help, only to return 4 months later for the still marooned remainder of the team. Today, almost a century later, we remember and celebrate the brave men with a song and a sweater carrying the same name as the dreaded island. Limited to 28 pieces, each sweater is dedicated to a different member of the crew and comes with the LP of Lucky Paul’s freshly released EP ‘Elephant Island’, available here.
